Two-factor authentication

2 min readInboxOji Help

Two-factor authentication adds a second step when you sign in, so your password alone can't open your account. It's available on every plan and takes about a minute to set up.

What it is, and why turn it on

Normally you sign in with your password. With two-factor authentication on, you also enter a short code from an app on your phone. The code changes every few seconds, so even if someone learned your password, they still couldn't get in without your phone.

It's one of the simplest ways to keep your account safe, and we recommend turning it on. You'll find it under Settings, in the Two-factor authentication section.

Turn it on

You'll need an authenticator app on your phone. Free options include Google Authenticator, Authy, and 1Password. Any of them work.

  1. Open the setting

Go to Settings and find Two-factor authentication. Turn it on.

  2. Scan the QR code

Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code on screen. If you can't scan it, the app will let you type in the setup key shown beside the code instead.

  3. Enter the 6-digit code

Your app now shows a 6-digit code for InboxOji. Type it into the box to confirm the two are linked.

  4. Save

Save your changes. Two-factor authentication is now on.

From now on, each time you sign in you'll be asked for a fresh code from your authenticator app. Open the app, read the current code, and type it in.

Keep your app and backups safe

The codes live on your phone. If you lose or replace your phone without a backup, you'll need a way back in. Save the backup or recovery options your authenticator app offers when you set it up. If you ever get stuck, see Two-factor authentication issues.

This protects InboxOji, not Gmail

Two-factor authentication here guards access to your InboxOji account. It doesn't change your Gmail's own security. Gmail has its own sign-in and 2-step settings, which you manage with Google.
