Two-factor (2FA) login issues

2 min readInboxOji Help

Locked out by two-factor authentication, or a code that just won't take? Here is how to get back in, and how to make sure it never happens again.

My code isn't accepted

Two-factor codes are time-based. Your authenticator app generates a fresh six-digit code every 30 seconds, and InboxOji only accepts the one that is current right now. Most "wrong code" problems come down to timing or a phone clock that has drifted.

Work through these in order:

  1. Enter the current code before it refreshes

Type the six digits while they are still showing, not after the app rolls over to the next code. If the timer is almost up, wait for the next one and enter that fresh.

  2. Set your phone's clock to automatic

This is the most common fix. If your phone's time is even a minute off, the codes won't line up. On your phone, open the date and time settings and turn on "Set automatically." Then try a new code.

  3. Use the right account

If your authenticator app holds several accounts, make sure you are reading the code listed under InboxOji and not another service.

The Two-factor authentication section in InboxOji Settings, where you enter and manage your six-digit codes.
You manage two-factor authentication from Settings once you are signed in.

I lost my phone or authenticator app

If your phone is gone, reset, or the authenticator app no longer has your InboxOji account, you'll need a backup to get in.

  • If you saved your setup key or backup codes when you first turned on two-factor authentication, use them now. A backup code works in place of the six-digit code, and the setup key lets you re-add InboxOji to a new authenticator app.
  • If you didn't save either, contact support@inboxoji.com. The team can help you regain access after confirming you own the account.
Heads up

Support can only restore access after verifying you own the account. This protects you. It also means recovery isn't instant, so keep your backup codes and setup key somewhere safe.

I want to turn 2FA off or reset it

Once you are signed in, you are in full control. Go to Settings and open the Two-factor authentication section. From there you can:

  • Disable it entirely, if you no longer want a code at sign-in.
  • Re-enroll by scanning a new code into a fresh authenticator app. This is the clean way to move two-factor to a new phone.

For a step-by-step walkthrough of setting it up, see Set up two-factor authentication (2FA).

Tip

When you set up two-factor authentication, save the setup key and backup codes somewhere safe, like a password manager. With those stored, a lost or replaced phone never locks you out.
