What happens if a payment fails
A declined card is almost always a quick fix, and it does not lock you out right away. InboxOji retries the charge over a few days and emails you so you can update your details and keep going.
Cards fail for everyday reasons, not because anything is wrong with your account. The most common causes are:
- The card on file has expired.
- There were insufficient funds at the moment of the charge.
- Your bank blocked the charge because InboxOji is a new merchant it has not seen before.
When a charge does not go through, we do not switch anything off immediately. We try again automatically over the next few days and send you an email each time so you know to take a look. In most cases, simply updating your card clears it up.
Fix a failed payment

Open Billing
Go to Billing and select Manage billing to open your secure billing portal.

Update your card
Add a new card, or re-enter your existing one if the details have changed. Your card is stored securely in the billing portal.

Let the charge retry
Once your details are saved, the charge is retried. When it succeeds, everything continues exactly as before. Your rules keep drafting and nothing is lost.
If your bank blocked the charge because InboxOji is a new merchant, approving the charge in your banking app, or a quick call to your bank to confirm it is you, usually clears it. After that, the retry goes through normally.
If it stays unpaid
If the retries do not succeed by the end of the retry window, your plan pauses. This is not the same as losing your account:
- Your rules, settings and history are all kept.
- Drafting simply stops until billing is current again.
- As soon as you update your card and a payment goes through, your plan picks back up right where it left off.
You will not lose any of your work while a plan is paused. The pause only affects new drafting, and updating your card restores it.
